Face of The Day-10

Ana, a little girl from the State of Peten, Guatemala
Sometimes as a photographer I always wonder what happens to the thousands of people I have photographed over the years. Are they well, happy, etc. Life is hard living in a third world country where your government makes sure you'll always be poor and uneducated. Thank God for the men and women who travel to these countries trying to make a difference with Food, Medical supplies and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Face of The Day-9

Little Girl in Yellow Los Octoes, Guatemala
Curious little girl with a bright yellow shirt observing me while I was photographing a group of kids to her right. I couldn't help but snap this shot of her while she was watching my every move during the photo shoot.

Face of the Day-8

Rosa and Pedro, Los Ocotes, Guatemala
In my many travels around the world I love to photograph kids and young people. It has been my experience that in poorer counties kids are always so humble and most often very funny with all their different facial expressions. These two siblings were a little on the shy side but nonetheless fun to work with to get them to pose for me. God bless them.

Friends

Two little friends
Luis & Oscar
Isabel
Okay its been a while since my last post. So, lately I've been think about how fast time goes by and how fast kids grow up. I always wonder where this these kids might be today and if and if there doing well. Most of these kids are from homes where at least one parent is a believer and goes to church on a regular basis. The two boy's in the middle photo especially Luis, on the left loves to hang out at his church to help out his friends and neighbors with what ever they might need. Photos taken in Guatemala City.

Young Man Returning Home

Semana Santa or Holy Week continues right along with a much quieter Saturday afternoon. It was a good way for me to reflex on all that God has done for me in my life and that there is always more work to be done.

The Procession

The Procession

Walking Across the Alfrombra
Kids Picking Through the Aftermath
Today and all through the night are the big procession in Antigua, Guatemala. This is were all those beautiful Alfrombras will be trample on by the different procession that come through. This is actual a well organize event with brochures printed up to let you know at what time and where in city the processions come through. I myself, just sort of winged it. When I would come across people making the alfrombras I would ask them what time is the procession and then find my back in time to capture all the action. This is definitely a fun place to spend the weekend as there is just a certain peace that's descends upon the city during Holy Week.

Alfrombras-Rugs

Alfrombras-Antigua,Guatemala

Making Alfrombras
Okay, this is a big weekend for making Alfrombras in some Latin American counties such as Antigua, Guatemala. A tradition that started in Seville, Spain, and spread to Mexico,Chile, Peru and of course the most famous in Antigua, Guatemala. These rugs, made of saw dust are quite impressive and can take up to 12 hour to make. Groups of people will work on them all through the night to have them ready for the next procession that comes through and tramples on them.

Old Abandon Theater

Old Theater in Antigua, Guatemala
I've been to Antigua Guatemala, many times and never saw this old theater before that sits on the outskirts of town. I even tried to find some info on it but couldn't. My guess is that it was built around 1735. Like a lot of beautiful old structures in Antigua, they just seem to stand there waiting to be restored.

Dos Amigas-Two Friends

Carmen and Letty-Antigua Guatemala
These two little young girls are are the best of friends when they saw me walking down the street, like a a lot of kids, they are curious about my camera, and ask me what I was taking pictures of? I replied, everything, then they ask me if I would take their photo, which obviously I did. Upon showing them their new portrait on the back of  my LED screen they were more than delighted when they saw their image and then ask me for five bucks. Just kidding about the five bucks.
